Not all BETAs are created equal.
Some BETAs are early access to something “basically done.”
Others — like ours — are about building the foundation correctly.
Here’s exactly what Phase 1 of the CycleLab BETA is focused on, and just as importantly, what it isn’t.
What We Are Testing
Phase 1 is about process validation, not final performance claims.
Specifically, we’re testing:
- Diameter consistency across a full spool
- Spooling quality and handling behavior
- Print reliability across different machines
- Sensitivity to moisture and drying practices
- Whether our feedback process actually captures useful data
This phase answers a simple but critical question:
Can we consistently produce and deliver a filament worth iterating on?
What We’re Not Testing (Yet)
We are not trying to:
- Claim the “most sustainable filament”
- Optimize recycled content percentages
- Compete with mass-market pricing
- Declare a finished retail product
Doing those things too early is how materials projects fail quietly.
Why This Matters
By narrowing the scope of Phase 1, we:
- Reduce noise in tester feedback
- Avoid mis-attributing problems
- Build confidence before complexity
- Respect testers’ time and effort
Every later improvement — recycled blends, additives, refinements — depends on this step being done right.
Who This Phase Is For
If you enjoy understanding why something behaves the way it does, and you’re comfortable testing materials that are still evolving, Phase 1 is for you.
If you’re looking for a polished, final product — later phases will be a better fit.
